# Tiny kimono
And another project I’ve been working on the last two weeks. A friend gave me some yarn she had lying about. I decided to turn this into something useful for her as a thanks. It’s a baby kimono for her gorgeous little babygirl Thiska. I used crochet and embroidery. Never having made anything decent in crochet before and after only two weeks of learning I think I’ve managed to make something pretty and wearable. Below the pictures you will find links to the pattern and to the online tutoring I’ve used to learn. Honestly I can say that it’s very easy to learn like this, I’ve had many comments on crochet and that people seem to find it difficult but just give it a try. With only a few basics to use one can make very good and satisfying results in no time, and it’s faster then knitting

Thiska's Kimono

Thiska's Kimono, back.
Here’s a list of places I’ve been visiting in order to learn crochet (the embroidery I’ve learned by being a member of the HEN community and stitch-a-day list):
For the kimono
- The pattern of the kimono.
- The first row, the chainstitch. A video tutorial. (abbreviation in the pattern: ch)
- The most used stitch in the pattern, the half double crochet. A video tutorial. (abbreviation in the pattern: hdc)
- The slip stitch. A video tutorial. (common abbreviation: sl st. Not used in the pattern)
- The single crochet. A video tutorial. (abbreviation in the pattern: sc)
For the decoration on the back
- The little crocheted flowers. Though I can’t seem to find the one that I used personally this one makes almost the same flowers and is a really nice tutorial with understandable pictures.
- The white line is the chain stitch used in embroidery.
- The little dots of brown-red are french knots.
For the dutch people wanting to give it a try here’s a translation of the crochet stitchnames:
| Nederlands | Engels |
| losse of kettingsteek | chain |
| halve vaste | slip stitch |
| vaste | single crochet |
| half stokje | half-double crochet |
| stokje | double crochet |
| dubbel stokje | treble crochet |
| driedubbel stokje | double treble crochet |
